Born August 24, 1926, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Ralph Dewey Teunis and Ruth Locke (Huyett) Teunis.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Lu (Hill) Teunis, in 1997.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
He received his doctorate degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry and was self employed at Teunis Vision Center in Gaithersburg, MD.
He attended Hilltop Christian Fellowship in Clear Spring and was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Gaithersburg, MD and a lifetime member of the Clear Spring Lions Club.
Robert enjoyed every aspect of life. He was an accomplished man being an Optometrist, an airplane pilot, sailboat captain, and a self-taught celestial navigator. He was a kind man and cherished his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed hiking and biking, skiing and whitewater rafting. Robert loved to travel and took trips all over the world. He enjoyed experiencing other cultures.
He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Thomas and husband, Alfred; son, Robert Huyett Teunis Jr. and wife, Marilyn; son, Mark Ralph Teunis and wife, Teresa; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Wendy, Meaghan, Corrin, Robert III, Allison, Jessica, Mark Jr., Eileen, Mary Pat, and Michael; and 3 great-grandchildren, Grace, Carter, and Marco.
In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Dewey Teunis Jr.
Services will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021, at 11 am at Hilltop Christian Fellowship, 12624 Trinity Church Drive, Clear Spring, MD. The Rev. Dennis Whitmore will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, MD.
The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service on Monday from 9 to 11 am.
Due to current COVID-19 regulations, facial coverings are required and social distancing will be practiced.
