Born November 30, 1965, Colleen was raised just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. As a young girl on a farm, Colleen developed an enduring love for animals. She was active in 4H and learned to appreciate farming and agricultural activities.
While attending Pine-Richland High School, Colleen worked with a prominent Pittsburgh veterinarian. Upon graduation in 1983, Colleen went on to the University Park Campus of Penn State University with hopes of pursuing a career as a veterinarian. However, influenced by the great university faculty, she changed her major to Ag Science with an emphasis on dairy.
After receiving her degree, Colleen worked for the Mason Dixon Dairy Farm near Gettysburg, PA. While there she managed a large milk house, which along with other activities and her formal education, prepared her for her life’s work of helping farmers.
In 1998 Colleen went to work for the USDA, ultimately becoming the County Executive Director of the Washington County Farm Service Agency. Her duties included working with local farmers on federal farm bills relating to areas such as conservation and dairy margin protection programs. Everyone she worked with and served knew Colleen as someone who was good at her job and loved her work.
Colleen was active in the Holstein Association, served and chaired many committees, was on the board of directors for the Clear Spring District Historical Association, participated in French and Indian War reenactments at Fort Frederick, and was involved for many years in the Washington County Ag Expo and Fair.
She is survived by her mother, Bette J. Morris of Hagerstown, MD; her father, Raymond Morris (Virginia) of Wexford, PA; sister, Nance Morris Adler (Steve) of Seattle, WA; and brother, Scott A. Morris (Cheryl Young) of Clear Spring, MD.
A friend to all, Colleen touched the lives of so many in the community with her gentle and generous spirit. She will be missed by all.
