Born August 26, 1952, in Hagerstown, MD, he is the son of David H. Witmer of Hagerstown and the late Delores I. (Lowman) Witmer.
David was a 1970 graduate of Clear Spring High School.
He was currently employed with the Washington County Board of Education for 14 years as a custodian and previously with Grove Manufacturing for 30 years.
David was a Charter member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring. He was a past member of the Clear Spring Lions Club, the Studebaker’s Drivers Club, and the Wilson Ruritan.
In early years, he coached softball for his daughter. David loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid collector of Studebaker memorabilia and enjoyed watching nature at his home.
David is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Susan K. (Bushey) Witmer, of Clear Spring; son, Kenneth A. Witmer and wife, Tabitha, of Greencastle; daughter, Jennifer D. Plante-Willis and husband, John, of Big Pool; two sisters, Grace Priest of Hagerstown and Patricia Ditto and husband, Gerald, of Clear Spring; brother, Jesse Witmer and wife, Jean, of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Brenton Welty of Greencastle, and Skylar Plante, Madelyn Willis, and Hayley Willis, all of Big Pool; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 11:30 am at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD. Pastor Virgil Cain will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
