Born January 1, 1936, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alfred “Joe” Eldon McAllister and Ruth Elizabeth (Henson) McAllister.
Esther is preceded in death by her first husband, James Shelby, in 2012 and her second husband, Ralph Bowen, in 2002.
She attended the Clear Spring schools and was a homemaker.
Esther loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and gardener.
She was a member of the Clear Spring District Historical Society.
Esther is survived by one son, Roy Shelby and wife, Annie, of Clear Spring; four daughters, Pam Cavender and husband, Denny, of Mercersburg, June Bishop and husband, Rocky, Peggy Shelby, and Rhonda Needy, all of Clear Spring; one brother, Ronald McAllister and wife, Barb, of Clear Spring; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Gloyd, in 2012.
Services will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD 21722. The Rev. Ron Faith will officiate. Interment will follow in Little Rose Hill Cemetery in Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
