Born May 16, 1941, in Clear Spring, MD, he was the son of the late Harry Calvin Mills and Susan Pauline (Bridendolph) Mills.
Harry was a 1959 graduate of Clear Spring High School and was a veteran of the US Army.
He retired from Lucent Technology Services.
Harry was a member of the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring. He was the recipient of the 19th annual Washington County Most Beautiful Citizens of America Honor Award Plaque. Harry was an avid sports fan and a New York Yankee enthuiast. He coached Little League for nearly 50 years and Junior League Basketball for 25 years. He enjoyed playing poker online and listening to country music and bluegrass. Most of all, Harry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he especially loved watching Savannah pitch softball.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Ethel May (Hawbaker) Mills; son, Scott Martin Mills (Kandi) of Clear Spring; four sisters, Gloria Kenny of Gainesville, FL, Carol Eshelman of Hagerstown, Dorothy Mills of Baltimore, and Joyce Younker of Berkeley Springs, WV; a brother, Calvin Mills of Martinsburg, WV; 4 grandchildren, Brittney Mills, Joshua McPherson, Savannah Mills, and Brooke Mills; 4 great-grandchildren, Nova, Kyrie, Desmond, and Mykah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammie Lee Mills; 3 sisters, Carrie Wolford, Delores Mills, and Lorraine Mills; and 2 brothers, Joseph Mills and Donald Mills.
Services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020, at 10:30 am at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD. Rev. Sakinah Nicholson-Carter will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm.
