Born April 30, 1920, in Big Pool, MD, he was the son of the late Ralph Raymond Gehr and Rachel Ann (Shank) Gehr.
Ralph was 1937 graduate of Clear Spring High School. In early years, he was employed by Potomac Edison. He was a co-owner of Gehr’s Hardware Store in Clear Spring, a master plumber until 2003, and a lifelong farmer.
Ralph was a member of Grace Family Fellowship of Williamsport and a previous member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Big Pool. He was a member of Shanktown Cemetery Association, where he served as president from 1984 to 2015. He was also a member of the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company, where he volunteered for many years at the annual fireman’s carnival in the french fry stand.
Ralph is survived by his daughter, Jennifer L. Spong and husband, Grant, and son, Daniel R. Gehr and wife, Pamela, all of Big Pool; 7 grandchildren, David (Jackie), Michael (Robbi), Richard (Katie), Joshua (Shallon), Karen (Brett), Kimberly (Bryan), and Denton; 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Kathryn “Kay” Gehr, in 2016; and 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 11 am at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD. The Pastor Richard Kissel will officiate. Interment will follow at Shanktown Cemetery, Big Pool, MD.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon on Wednesday.
