Born October 9, 1949, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Annabelle (Suffecool) Kayser and the late Emory Leon Yeakle.
Dick was a 1967 graduate of Clear Spring High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War as a combat veteran and receiving a purple heart for combat injuries.
Dick retired from Mack Truck in Hagerstown after 40 years of employment. In previous years, he worked for his uncle, Roger Yeakle, at the Esso Station in Clear Spring.
He was a member of Parkhead United Methodist Church in Big Pool, the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring, where he served as adjutant and financial officer, the Izaak Walton League of America Washington County Chapter, and numerous other veteran organizations.
Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman, teaching his children and grandchildren the discipline of both. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. Dick cherished his family and loved spending time with them camping, swimming, taking photographs, and teasing each one of them. In later years, he became an avid traveler with his wife and visited numerous places throughout the states.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Kay (Shupp) Yeakle; his children, Becky Lynne DiPasquale and husband, Michael, Bradley Christopher Yeakle and wife, Kristie, and Karen Diane Nielsen and husband, Kelly; two sisters, Barbara Hardeo and husband, Dave, and Darlene McCarty and husband, Paul; a step sister, Sonja Blair; a step brother, Curt Kayser; four grandchildren, Markee Baker and husband, Aaron, Lucas Bagley and wife, Victoria, Hunter Easterday and girlfriend, Maya, and Morgan Yeakle; a close cousin, Jerry Yeakle; and numerous niece and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step father, John Kayser; a step sister, Patricia Repp; father and mother in law, Harry and Esther Shupp; maternal grandparents, Richard and Pearl Suffecool; and paternal grandparents, John and Ethel Yeakle.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 10 am at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD with Pastor John Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD with military honors by the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 pm. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon.
