Born May 5, 1931, in Pearre, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin Hofe and Ada Louise (Sipes) Hofe.
Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger Abram Moore, in 1977.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
Ruth was employed by the Washington County Board of Education as a Cafeteria Aide and School Bus Assistant. She was also previously employed at Dimon’s Dress Shop, Janice Ryan’s Clothing, Troy Laundry, the lunch counter at the courthouse, and she was a Tupperware consultant.
She was a member of the Clear Spring Lioness Club. Ruth enjoyed canning and cooking for her family. She was an avid card and bingo player. In early years, her and her husband enjoyed going camping with friends.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Linda R. Shirley and husband, Darryl, of Big Pool, and Shirley L. Mills of Clear Spring; 3 sisters, Lorraine Carter, Genevieve Haupt, and Mary Louise Hess, all of Hagerstown; 4 grandchildren, April Shupp and husband, Sid, Jay Mills and wife, Ami, Angie Shirley, and Scott Shirley; and 4 great-granddaughters, Brenna Mills, Chloe Mills, Ella Shupp and Blake Shupp.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Violet Grove and Alene May; 2 brothers, Clyde Hofe and Kenneth Hofe; and a son-in-law, Garry Mills.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11 am at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740 with Father Steven McCarty officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Clear Spring American Legion Activities Building, 12335 Big Spring Road, Clear Spring, MD.
