Born April 25, 1954, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Arthur Burleson and Carol Louise (Bowers) Burleson.
Terry was a 1973 graduate of Clear Spring High School and a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clear Spring.
Terry began working at the young age of 11, running in the race track for races at the Hagerstown Speedway. Through the years, he was employed in the steam room at the Gateway restaurant, was a co-owner of B&S Seafood, and then went to work for Certain-Teed Corporation in 1984, where he worked until his retirement. After retiring, Terry became a very loved and valuable employee at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Clear Spring.
He was a member of the Potomac Bass Master’s, was “Mr. Bass” in 1984 for the State of Maryland, a former Vice President of the Clear Spring Little League, a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, and a member of the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 S.A.L. of Clear Spring.
Terry enjoyed antiquing and was an avid outdoorsman partaking in hunting, fishing, crabbing, and snowmobiling. His life was devoted to his family and helping anyone. You could always find Terry lending a hand whenever and wherever he could.
He is survived by his second wife of 16 years, Cindy Sharer; three sons, Terry Shatzer of Clear Spring, Douglas Burleson of Los Angeles, CA, and Clinton Burleson (Courtney) of Clear Spring; a brother, Michael Burleson (Sharon) of Hagerstown; 3 special nephews, Chuck (Susie), Darren (Ashley), and Robbie (Jackie); and great nieces and nephews, Hope, Wyatt, Colton, Sherri, Kara, Elizabeth “Ellie,” Jansen, Hope, and Christopher.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by first wife, Phyllis Ann (Reed) Burleson, and a niece, Sherri.
The family will receive friends at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD on Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 8 p.m.
For your convenience, the funeral home will be open from 1 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2020, at 2 pm at the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company Special Events Building, 12323 Big Spring Road, Clear Spring, MD. Father Mark Michael and Pastor Steve Wagoner will officiate. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Due to current COVID-19 regulations, facial coverings are required and social distancing will be practiced.
